Agreed. Also throw in JP Crawford as a guy who'd possibly be in play at 14. #1 rated SS, expected to stick, cousin of Carl Crawford.

Shipley might be tough to pass up if he's there, though.

M's take Peterson.

Pirates could have a phenomenal draft. Talk about getting some awesome breaks.

Padres looking at Renfroe apparently. Good, already got a toolsy OF guy with Meadows.

Have a shot at the draft's top catcher, top SS, and a frontline pitcher.

Mcguire, Shipley or Crawford. Win, win, win.

Pirates have to be thrilled.

John Manuel (Baseball America) seems to suggest that the Pirates are going McGuire.

Said it "would be a very nice haul".

Reese McGuire it is.

Got the #1 OF and #1 C, both premium positions.

Kudos to the front office.

Peter Gammons:

"The handoff from Russell Martin to Reese McGuire is going to be very important."

Is Pete saying McGuire will be in the Pittsburgh when he is 20? Retire, buddy. You are Dick Enberging yourself.

Plus Gammons immediately dismissed Tony Sanchez as being a bust in relation to the McGuire pick. Of course, he's welcome to do that with how Sanchez had looked coming into this year but at this point it's an out of date remark. Surely between the trio of Sanchez, Mathisen and McGuire we will get something better than back-up potential.

Got the #5 and #10 players in the draft at the 9th and 14th picks.

Tip of the hat to the Royals and Blue Jays for making some surprise picks.

At this point in his career watching Pete talk about sports is like watching Dick Clark on New Year's Eve Post-Stroke

I don't think he meant so much as bust, just "hasn't worked out that well." And lets be honest, due to getting hit in the face and a few other things, he is definitely at least two years behind schedule from where an #4 pick should be right now in his development.

Bud Selig:

"The Los Angleese Dodgers select".

More reasons to hate this idiot. He can even pronounce franchise names.

Laughed out loud when he said that. Ain't no way Russell Martin is a Pirate that long, and Tony Sanchez may make him eat those words anyway.

That Gammons quote brought up too many great responses to quote them all. :D

I always marvel at how many times Harold Reynolds manages to put his foot in his mouth.
