Smizik was on the Joe Bendel show(am 970)yesterday and said that it was important that people read instead of being indifferent. He stated that taking an anti populuar position was not easy and he knew he could offend coaches & players with his rants. He said most of the people who contacted him about his retirement said they liked to read his opinions but they did not always agree with.
Good or bad writer? Purely subjective. It's like judging a X-mas card contest. Its not the same as judging a baseball team that is a proven loser year in and out so the comparison of enabling a writer to enabling a lousy baseball team is a stretch.

No, no, youre confusing the issue. Yes, a writer doesnt care if people disagree with him if they keep reading his column. I said hes a lousy writer. A rotten and unimaginative craftsman, whose presentations are so shallow they are easily dismissed. No writer wants to be thought of that way.
