Anyone else harboring some pit of the stomach worries about this series?

Bob Prince's rule of Hidden Vigorish and all that.

Thank God they won today.

I can just see Eric Bedard pitching a two hitter against us on Saturday.

Truth be told I was scared of this whole week, going into it. My nightmare scenario included a sweep or a one win against the Brewers to start it. Glad that didn't happen.

Go Bucs

The old saying in baseball is that your momentum is determined by today's starting pitcher.

Last year, the Pirates went 12-5 against the Astros.

This year, the Pirates are better and the Astros are worse.

Those are the facts. But those facts mean nothing once the first pitch is thrown.

No, the opposite. I think we are ready to steamroll the Astros. I'll settle for 2 of 3 but I'm hoping for a sweep. Certainly our hitters will have no trouble with Bedard.

absolutely...thinking the same thing last night. A team the PIrates should easily handle...if not...self doubt could creep in and who knows?...or they could just pound the shit out of those high-ass era's which quite frankly...I prefer.

Altuve is on the bereavement list and isn't expected to play tonight.

That drops them down to a AA-quality lineup.

Gomez has pitched well, but I'm still always leery when he's on the hill.

Well you never know. I'm used to epic failure from our Buccos so it won't suprise me. But, repeat after me: This is the best team we've had since 1992. This is the best team we've had...

I just looked at his stat line, and he appears to be exactly what he was billed to be: a highly disciplined hitter that can draw walks and not much else. Reminds me of Daric Barton.

The few games they win, they seem to do the only thing they can to do so: have an offensive outburst to compensate for their miserable starting pitching. Pirates starting pitching shutting them down will be the key, as cliche as it sounds. They do have some legitimate power in the line-up with Carter and Pena, not sure how being DH-less will consider into playing time for those two though. The line-up as a whole has also started the season by striking out at a historical rate. Being Altuve-less might be the biggest dropoff in the league as far as a team being without their best hitter. I wouldn't be too concerned if Jeanmar Gomez's string of good fortune ended tonight, but I do think this is a perennial "should win 2/3" series. Damage has to be done against Lyles, Bedard and co.

I'll be a little bittersweet about seeing Grossman ... while I think the Wandy trade has worked out nicely I hated giving him up, truly a prospect that was unlike any other in the system regarding the plate discipline.
