The old Cuban RH was pretty effective (FIP about 3.00, fastball at 93-94) in his second career as a reliever with the Phils prior to TJ surgery. The book says he is 41, but Lord knows how old he really is. He throws a heavy dose of 2 seamers and sliders. I imagine Morris or Mazzaro will head to AAA.

I really wish they'd let Morris stay on the big league club and pitch for a few weeks to see what he can do.

Me too. Time to let him get comfortable instead of the up and down stuff. NH even gave him a vote of confidence about a week ago. I think(or am hoping) that it is Mazzaro that goes down. You have to find out how successful some of these young guys will be, and that can't happen jerking them back and forth from MLB to AAA.

We already know what Morris can do. He is an effective reliever and potential closer, but for now he is a little lower on the depth chart so he's going to have to bounce back and forth and be more of a backup plan.

I expect Mazzaro to be the first to go when Contreras comes up. Then Morris when Liriano comes up.

The tougher call is what to do when Morton comes up.

Yes I'd say Gomez is most likely to lose his roster spot, but what will the rotation be? If Locke keeps pitching well it may come down to either Morton or JMac.

The Cardinals used Matt Morris out of the bullpen when he came back from his Tommy John...Maybe use the same approach with Morton?

He is old as balls. What could he possibly offer that Bryan Morris doesn't?

I think I heard on the telecast yesterday that Contreras is only stretched to one inning and that is the max he'll pitch. I can't imagine they'll swap this for a guy like Morris, who can go multiple innings. Maybe Mazzaro?
