new catcher is nothing more than a backup, should compete with Diaz in Spring Training if they don't resign Chavez.

Darn straight. I can't believe that Huntington wasn't able to pull off a Paulino for Jake Peavy trade. Ridiculous.

Here is a Phillies blog on the trade. They view Paulino as a starter.

They're in for a huge disappointment when he comes to the training table....and eats the table.....and the trainer.

I think what happened was, Huntington's accountant told him he had to make a trade while in Vegas in order for him to write off the trip.

It looks as though the powers that be decided Joggin Ronny just didn't have the personal qualities he needed to be consistent. He's gone. So be it.

There is one question. Does Jaramillo have to be added to the 40 man? If not, that opens up a space. Maybe that's the whole point of the trade.

Good question and observation. He was drafted in 2004 so he's coming up on 5 years. I always get confused by the whole 40-man concept as pertains to people not on the 25 man roster so hopefully someone will answer this for us.

Welcome to the board.

Just checked pirateball.com and Jaramillo is on the 40 man.

I read somewhere that he was on a rigorous workout schedule this off season and lost...10 pounds. Ok, I'm a shade over 170 and I think I could lose 10 pounds if I needed to. How hard could it have been for his plump butt to shed his baby fat?

Another blurb from BA:

Quote:
The Pirates sold low on Paulino, who is a career .278/.331/.382 hitter, and ended up with a watered-down version of him in return, albeit one who switch-hits and has yet to accrue any big league service time.

Well, I'm certainly going to miss the "Joggin Ronnie" moniker.

I was more of a fan of "Ron Paul," or at least I was until I found out who the real Ron Paul was.
