Only in Boston...

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/fantasy-r ... 2Zm;_ylv=3

Quote:
Boston's embattled closer faced only two batters in the ninth inning on Saturday, and he walked 'em both. Hanrahan threw 12 pitches, four of which were strikes. With that, his day ended. He was yanked in favor of Koji Uehara.

Hanrahan's mess was cleaned up nicely by Uehara (nine pitches, three outs), and the Red Sox managed to beat the Rays in 10 innings. So the day certainly wasn't a disaster for Boston.

But clearly, Joel Hanrahan is a closer in trouble. Over his last three appearances he's allowed four walks, three homers and six earned runs.

Still a salary dump? Or is it too small of a sample size to be pushing Joel into Boston Harbor?

Closer with [history of] control issues + Boston = disasterpiece.

Sucks for Hammer to be put in such a hostile situation.

I would have been fine with a trade even if it were just a salary dump. To have gotten anything from Boston was surprising to me. I didn't think we'd get a good return at all for him.

Trading closers too early instead of too late appears to be the wise strategy.

Stolmy Pimentel (acquired in the Hanrahan trade) is also off to an excellent start in the minors, 12IP, 11Ks, 0ER.

I think there's no mistake that when it comes to buying or selling bullpen arms, Neal is the best GM in the MLB. His bullpen acquisitions keep us afloat every season, too. While we complain about our lack of hitting, there's a number of teams out there who miss the playoffs because they can't build a bullpen. It is our strength, for sure.

Keep in mind, Sands could also turn into a useful power bat, too.
