Jameson Taillon struck out 10 batters in 6IP in tonight's Altoona game.

Wasn't a perfect start by any means, as he walked three and four of the five hits given up went for extra bases (one HR, three doubles), but the ten punchouts is great to see.

Elsewhere at Indianapolis, McPherson got demolished and was chased after just 1.2 innings. In the second, he gave up 5 straight hits (4 of which were singles, one on a bunt), and then after two outs gave up another hit and a walk before being pulled. So far it looks like there may have indeed been something to McPherson's ST struggles that cost him a rotation spot.

I must say, Taillon has been impressive, regardless of the walks. I will say, most power pitchers have a tendency to walk a few more pitcher than not. So Walking 3 is hardly horrible. If he can continue to put up K's then I'll take that all day and night. Of the three pitchers the Pirates drafted, Taillon has me thinking that he could be our number one in 2015/16.
I don't think Cole's struggle will continue. I expect him to bounce back here in the next few outings. I was under the impression that he was disappointed by his return to the minor league club after a decent spring training. So he has been trying too hard.
