Martin wasn't brought in for offense anyways.

He'll be better than Barajas. He can actually take a walk, and he's been a pretty consistent 15-20 HR guy his entire career. Plus we got him at age 30, not when he was completely washed up like Barajas.

And hey, it's not like Barajas himself didn't have his moments for us. He had some big hits and he was a very positive influence on the clubhouse, despite being overall terrible. Just saying, we've seen worse FA moves from the Pirates than Rod Barajas with nothing positive coming from them.

I hear ya, 77, but when no one is hitting at all, an 0 for 5 (as in 0 for 5 games) is harder to take.

I think it means he was brought in for his defense.

Lol, sorry. He's younger than what barajas was but as a guy who used his offense along with stellar defense to earn allstar appearances, those days are over.

I wasn't expecting all star numbers offensively. Maybe he can replicate what he did last year but his home runs will most likely have to come on the road.

He was brought here because pirate catchers couldn't control the oppositions running game.

He's another guy whose offensive value lies in sporadic power. His OBP the last two years combined is .317. So he adds to the problem the Pirates have by being another hitter who does not get on base at an acceptable level. It's frustrating.

Hey, we'e got a runner here.

He's got more stolen bases than hits, and the only time he's been on base, IIRC, he was taking a bigger than expected lead from your catcher.
