The Pirates are in discussions with free-agent reliever Derrick Turnbow.

Turnbow, 30, was Milwaukee's closer when he pitched in the 2006 All-Star Game at PNC Park, but he has fallen far since that 39-save season: He lost the closer's job in 2007 while posting a 4.63 ERA, then made eight terribly erratic appearances last season -- 15.63 ERA, 13 walks in 6 1/3 innings -- before being demoted to the minors and, ultimately, shut down by shoulder trouble.

The Pirates are interested in a Spicolli look a like...I hope its a small signing with league minimum with incentive bonuses, cuz I think he's washed up...

Wow. I can't believe this guy started 6 games in the minors last year according to baseball reference. It almost looks like they were starting the closer in these games because he didn't have many innings. This guy used to be one of my favorite players in like 2004 and 2005. He walked 41 guys in 18 innings in AAA - quality! Last time I checked, this guy only threw 2 pitches, the heater and a slurvy curve.

Washed up is right

Let's hope these "discussions" are about a non-guaranteed tryout.
