Why do they get everyone excited for baseball with opening day and then take the next day off? I recall them doing the same last year as well.

Have done it for as long as I can remember.

I think the explanation is to allow for possible rainouts on opening day.

This ^

Plus, I think that MLB likes to have half the teams run their opening day on Monday, and then the other half on Tuesday. That way, MLB opening day fills Sportscenter and other media for two opening days, rather than one.

I'm more curious about how they scheduled the interleague games. I mean, how hard would it be to just have the AL Central and East teams play the NL Central and East teams? Do the Pirates really need to be playing Seattle, LAA, Rangers, etc.? What kind of draw are those teams? And how in the world do they not schedule Pittsburgh vs Cleveland :?:

I personally love it. Seeing teams the Buccos rarely play is a treat.

I wouldn't mind if they prioritized getting the regional games (ALC) scheduled first.
