3 lefties in the rotation to start the year.

I like the rotation with what they have. I was rooting for Locke and Sanchez to be the 4th and 5th starters over McPherson and that other guy because I have no confidence in them. With Locke and Sanchez, I am optimistic. Now the bullpen is another story for a later date

Not quite "Penguins trade for Jerome Iginla," but this definitely qualifies as news.

On the plus side, Locke's thrown 6 scoreless innings so far today against the Yankees. Hope that strong start can carry over into the regular season.

Yeah and they did it without giving up a top 5 prospect. Its nice to see what a great GM can do in a fair market place (cap). I have a feeling the Pirates will be pretty far off the radar this spring with the still crappy weather and what is going on in uptown. Opening Day tix are certainly far easier this year than last with Philly not in town and weather around 40.

If the Pens got Gilbert Brule instead of Crosby in the '05 draft, he's probably not making nearly as many savvy moves.

Umm James Neal and Niskanen for Goligoski; Kunitz for Whitney; Hossa and Dupuis for Armstrong, Christensen, Esposito. Shero made all of those moves independent of Crosby. Don't make it sound like his only skill was drafting Crosby. Shero has been excellent at roster construction including smaller trades and FA moves.

Every franchise needs a little luck to be successful. The Penguins probably wouldn't be in Pittsburgh right now if they didn't win the 2005 draft lottery.

That said, Ray Shero has done a great job as GM.

It's a good thing that the drafting of Crosby isn't his only skill, because Crosby was drafted by Craig Patrick. :D

In fact, the entire big 4 of the Pens (Crosby, Letang, Malkin, Fleury) were all drafted by Patrick. Shero has done a great job, but Patrick built the foundation.

Shero is a wizard.

All the best for Locke! Make us eat crow over the McLouth trade!

Just sayin', if Crosby and Malkin aren't there, Iginla probably wouldn't be, either.
