Leroux gave up 8 runs in the first inning as the Pirates lost 12-10 today.
Last game on Wednesday

This just does not seem like a very good spring. I'm not brimming with optimism at the moment.

Agreed. They have not put the same lineup into a ST game twice yet. They have not the full starting lineup in either.

They've done ok. The spring lineups are irrelevant.

If they get good starting pitching, a very big if, they will be fine.

Kind of like last year's 9 win spring?

Who won the most spring training games in 2012? Or 2011?

Nobody knows, nobody cares.

But I am irritated quite a bit by Hurdle's insistence on simply throwing away opportunities on garbage like Hawpe.

If anyone's counting (and I was slightly curious), the Pirates have won 12 games so far this ST season.

If I'm taking away anything from ST, it's that the starting pitching had been not very impressive...IMO... :?

I know nobody cares. I don't. I'd never watch spring training, I normally don't follow it all (though being on this website this year has increased my ST exposure), and results are largely irrelevant. But, if you've been following the team's progress, I'll ask you: do you feel better, or worse, for the team's 2013 prospects after this spring training than you were a month ago?

I know 2012! The Blue Jays! They dominated!

Then they won about 70 games.

Interesting question. I feel a little worse. I was nervous about the starting rotation a month ago, and am even moreso now.

But I am still hopeful. I think we are in good shape with our position players, and there is a chance our rotation could be good. And of course a chance it could be very bad.

I smell 70 wins and I hate the feeling.

Meaningless ST stats:

Pirate pitching has given up 145 Runs, over the course of 30 games so far, averaging 4.83 Runs per game...not that I'm keeping track or anything like that... :D
