I find this interesting because Martin is in the No. 2 spot. Is Hurdle giving us a preview of the lineup today? No GI Jones or Tabata today, but could those be the slots?

Marte LF
Martin C
McCutchen CF
Sanchez 1B
Alvarez 3B
Walker 2B
Snider RF
Barmes SS
McDonald P

I don't like Walker hitting sixth. With his OBP, he should be higher in the order.

Walker is intriguing. I think you could see him get a shot hitting leadoff if Marte doesn't work out there. The only other spot for him up top would be hitting second. He also hits better than anyone not named McCutchen with RISP, so if you get the production you hope from Jones/Sanchez and Alvarez then there could be plenty of opportunities for him to do damage hitting sixth.

It would be idiotic to hit Martin 2nd and Walker 6th. I realize batting order doesn't matter that much in the grand scheme, but you gotta give Walker more ab's than Martin.

Hopefully CH is batting Martin 2nd to get him extra ST at bats since he is well behind schedule due to his minor injuries.

I dunno ... Hurdle has mentioned that he thinks Martin is a good fit in the number 2 spot in the order.

“Hurdle recently drew some double-takes for thinking out loud about possibly batting Russell Martin No. 2; the Bucs’ new catcher has a lifetime OBP of .352 (albeit it slipped last season to .311)."

He made that statement on February 24, 2013, before spring training was under way much at all.

Yeah, I'm just trying to make myself feel better. Martin's wRC+ is 95 over the last 3 years, not close to Walker's 113 in the same time frame.
