Rosenthal just tweeted the Buccos have made a deal with Liriano. I don't have details.

Looks like $12.7 over 2 years, with some protection for the Pirates over the arm injury.

Just in time for Monday P/C reporting. We haven't had this kind of depth (SP and OF/1B) since before the streak began.

I agree.....now it's a matter of seeing who fits where, and hoping that Liriano and Sanchez can recapture some of their past success.

Awesome. Was getting a little worried.

Agree on the depth. DO YOUR THING SEARAGE! Make Liriano Cy Young-ish again!

I'd settle for above average-ish.

Yeah, given a few breaks, I think this staff is serviceable. And we might only need some of these arms to hold up until June :)

Surely you mean GABY Sanchez...

But seriously, lots to like here.

Another season of A.J., a full season of Wandy, Karstens is back, Liriano on board, long shot in J-Sanchez, plenty of young arms to slowly transition to the pros.

This feels close to a finished product or, if nothing else, markedly better than last year.

Mazzaro outrighted to AAA, he must have already cleared waivers so he could be outrighted one time.

Glad he's in the fold. He's got more potential than Sanchez.

The revised deal is very favorable for the Pirates. Liriano is guaranteed $1 million, and has another $3.75 million in potential performance bonuses. If he pitches well, he gets $4.75 million. If he pitches poorly, he gets much less.

The option is also performance-based, and is set at $5 million, $6 million, OR $8 million, depending on time spent on the DL If the Pirates want to keep him, they excercise the option.

Liriano is also 29 years old, left-handed, deals in the mid-90's, and K's more than a batter an inning in the AL. Solid deal.

Latest reports say that Liriano will not be on the mound for 4 more weeks. He will likely miss most of April like Burnett did last year. Let's hope the results of the wait are similar.
