It really Liriano or Marcum at this point. We need another SP and outside of bringing back Karstens there isn't really much to choose from. Marcum has been very good with his changeup and 87 mph fastball. the mystery is why he hasn't gotten a deal, there almost certainly has to be health issues.

I'm for whichever player will accept a 1-year deal. But sign one of them soon, as you never know when a pitching-hungry team will swoop in and grab one. It's only Liriano, Marcum, and Saunders left in the Pirates' price range.

Well has had Tj surgery already and last season he was complaining about elbow tightness. His upside is at best a 3 and I always assumed he would cost the buccos the 14th over all pick.

Do we really need another pitcher? even if Liarano contrac is voided we have 4 good pitcher headed into next season. With guys like Mcpherson,Locke, Wilson competing for the 5th spot. I would rather they save the money and see if AJ would sign a 2 or 3 year extension to help work with Cole and Tailon like hs did with jmac. Consider the fact that Cole might be ready by July anyone one you sign would have to be flipped at that time or move to the pen.

AJ
Wandy
Jmac
Oliver

Oliver won't even be considered for the rotation. So you're off.

And I would describe the Pirates' current starting pitching situation as precarious. They have two reliable starters -- A.J. and Wandy -- and then a bunch of question marks. Don't forget that J-Mac absolutely fell apart in the second half last year. And one of McPherson or Locke will be in the rotation, but you don't want two rookies there. So the Pirates NEED at least one more starter.

Like I said, I'd want Liriano or Marcum on a 1-year deal. Sign whoever's healthiest...

I'm much more interested in Liriano. Hope they can still get him. Marcum's injury situation worries me. I'd rather have Karstens back.

Marcum was bothered by elbow pain last year, and his results speak as to the effect on his performance.

First half of the 2012 season, 3.39 ERA, OPS against of .670, 8.4 K's/9 IP.
Second half of 2012 season, 4.32 ERA, OPS against of .816, 6.9 K's/9 IP.

Troubling.
