The article from Tim Brown on Yahoo mentioned he thinks R.A. Dickey may look nice in a Pirate Jersey.

Quote:
Here's where it stands between the Mets and their 38-year-old, 20-game winner: R.A. Dickey is under contract for 2013 for $5 million, the sides are negotiating an extension, and if they can't come to an agreement Dickey likely will be traded. Meantime, there's plenty of discussion about whether Dickey can maintain his breakout, knuckleball success of '12, whether his body will hold up, and whether he's a sound long-term investment for a team with good young starters on the horizon. The Mets probably aren't ready to contend in the NL East, so GM Sandy Alderson's best course is to get what he can for Dickey. I like him in Pittsburgh best.

I want him, but don't want to give up what it will probably take.

Why? I imagine its a cost issue? The guy is as good as #2 SP bet as there is since knucklers don't get hurt as much and age better. I think NY would want the moon for him.

Why not? He'd be a huge addition to the 2013 pitching staff. And it would be fun to watch a knuckler.

For emphasis, and I'm dead serious.

I'd take Dickey for one year, in a heartbeat. I really like the idea of being able to drop MacDonald down to the fourth spot, take all the pressure off him and let him have the chance to regain his form.

I think Dickey is a fluke, and he's getting older. He's been around the National League long enough for people to catch-on. I'm just not a big knuckleball fan, and I'd rather see the Pirates get someone younger and more long-term.

Tim Wakefield does not approve of this post.

Except he has been very good for three years now. He has gotten better, not worse ever since he revived his career with the knuckler hybrid. There is no reason to think he won't be very good in 2013. He is also a fantastic guy. If the price is right he should be here post-haste.

Dickey is a very solid SP'er. He has been good for three consecutive years. He has fanned 468 batters the past 3 years, while walking just 150. Any SP'er with a 3-1 K to BB ratio and who fans about 7 per 9 IP is going to have success.
