... One proposal had Jones and Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan and possibly another player going to the Mariners in exchange for first baseman Justin Smoak, catcher John Jaso, and starting pitcher Hector Noesi. The Bucs have let other teams know that Hanrahan is available and were said to be seeking rotation help in return.

I don't know about Smoak. He is constantly on the verge of being a bust and then saves himself with a hot week. I love Pedro Alvarez but I think one Pedro is enough.

This rumor makes no sense from our side. Lets see they get a good hitting 1B/RF and a quality closer and we get a nearly valueless former prospect at a position we don't really need and another C we don't need, and a worthless swingman. This smacks of being a Seattle spun rumor.

LOL, but I'll take Taijuan Walker :D :D :D

They can even have GFJ, Joel, Tabata, and a few other spare parts.

Agree with both SCA and BD.

Boatloads of potential or not, another Pedro type is not what the Pirates need.

And this does sound like a Seattle-spun rumor.

A few weeks ago acquiring Smoak, Jaso and Noesi for GJ and Hanrahan would have been of very little gain and now, after adding Martin and Robinson, it makes zero sense.

Plus, the M's have Pryor and Wilhemsen vying for the setup/closer role(s). A 9th inning arm is the least of their needs.

Should they have legit interest in GJ or Hammer, the asking price, fair or not, has to be Walker/Paxton minimum.

Wow, apparently NH did ask for Taijuan Walker in exchange for Jones, nice cajones!

U.S.S. Mariner wasn't fond of a GJ acquisition for the M's either (scroll down a bit):

Son pitched against Walker, who preferred basketball in high school. He was dealing at 94-95 mph in the first inning. His breaking ball needed work. Saw just the fastball and hard curve, but that was May of 2010.

He's now considered a top 5 pitching prospect in MLB. Maybe #2.

Son came on in relief with team down 3-0, pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings. Final score was 3-1, bad guys. Walker went the entire way.

The way I look at it, son beat Walker 1-0. :D

He also pitched against (and beat) Tyler Skaggs (now with Arizona) and Brett Gerritse (drafted in the 12th round by the Yankees).
