Let's see... what's the term for mumbling the same phrase over and over and over and...?
Slips my mind, can anyone think of the appropriate term here? without using nasty terminology?

If you think Sabathia can be a great pitcher for the first 4 years of the deal, Pirates would have him anchoring the rotation in 2011 when the team is supposed to be ready to contend. The team is going to lose 90 games in 2009 but in 2010, the team should be ready to be quite competitive and be at or slightly over .500 so that's why you invest now with a good player like Sabathia and play all the good young talent like McCutchen, Walker, and LaRoche.

Teams like the A's and Indians won't waste 3-4 years to move up a McCutchen, guys either have it or don't.

The thing is that I don't think that Sabathia will be a great pitcher for four years. Let me rephrase: I think that counting on him to be a great pitcher over the next four years is a very bad bet. He put a lot of miles on his arm over the last two seasons, especially down the stretch last year, and he doesn't have the most athletic physique.

The pirates say they what some power from hte right side of the plate. Now if they want that off the bench why dont they go and sign richie sexson? They might be able to get him at a reasonably cheap price. And I think he can still hit. He might not give you a great batting average and might strikeout alot but he can provide a good power threat off the bench.

Richie Sexon? Why? Did Amos Otis retire? Jeremy Burnitz still not hanging around Triple A? Derek Bell still on his boat?

Sexson is done as a player, anybody taking him is in a fantasy world thinking he can still play...
Though I wouldn't mind seeing Russell Branyan off the bench, a lefty bat with power, that can play the Corner OF spots, 3rd and 1st...

Russell Branyan is a head case. Knucklehead through and through.

Where do you get this? It's not like he's had any Milton Bradley like blowups or anything.

If Branyan can hit for the Bucs the way he hit for the Brewers this past season, then it shouldn't matter what's going on in his head. We'd be paying him to be a bench player, not a role model.

Branyan has been discussed here ad nauseum. He is a clubhouse cancer who has been a problem at many stops. His stay in Buffalo with the Bisons is littered with anecdotes. Pus he strikes out way too much. Craig Wilson Light.

If he's so bad, why does he keep getting employed?

He is decent hitter who has burned a few bridges here and there. Never stays in one place to long if you notice.

Which says to me that he's a fine candidate for the bench and should not be dismissed because some people think he's a head case. The guy can hit, and we need people who can hit.

He's a lefty with power that can hit...RF at PNC probably would excite him...
Also, though he might not be a great fielder he can cover the corners on the infield and outfield
