Not that this has anything to do with Pirates baseball, but I am pleased to announce that I completed my first marathon at age 47. (No, smart-asses, I did not start the thing at age 46 ...) I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Virginia and Washington, D.C. on October 26, 2008.

A great event. 2,500 Marines to run the water tables, handle the expo the day before the run and after the race, tons of volunteers, literally thousands of spectators cheering us on and handing out water, licorice sticks, etc. The route takes the runners from Arlington National Cemetery, over the Potomac, into Washington, D.C. We ran past the WWII Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument.

At mile 22, I encountered a group of guys who have apparently been regulars at the event for years. They were handing out beer in dixie cups. I thought, "What the hell," and had a beer. We did this turnaround near the Pentagon, and I ran into the same group at mile 24 and had another beer. Nice. Very nice.

And it took you this long to complete it? I'm pretty out of shape, but I would think that even I could have finished it by the end of October. :D

I say you are the one with the camera over his shoulder......................................savoring the fine brew out of the giant tub. And I thought the "Tubs 'O Beer" that we got at the Vet were big.

Police: "How many drinks did you have?"

Wilton: "I only had two, ossifer."

Congrats Bucfan. That's quite an accomplishment. I get tired DRIVING 26 miles.

How long did it take for your body to recover? I'd think the knees would be tender for a while.

I was really, really sore for two days. I took an ice bath on Tuesday after work, and started to feel better.

By the Saturday after the run, I was feeling pretty good. I ran 6 miles the Saturday following the marathon. Since then, I have run faster than I did before the marathon.
