Not intended to cross over into politics too much. Not sure how many are aware of Nate Silver's recent work that got a lot of attention in the media. Basically, Nate started out working with baseball stats and projection systems (PECOTA) then left baseball for politics. The idea being to try and model elections using statistical data. Nate predicted last week that the election would not be particularly close raising the ire of pundits. His model nailed 49 of 49 states and Florida as a toss up.

Dave Cameron wrote this piece on the topic of statistical modeling and what we can take with regards to the Saber debate. It is not an article claiming that numbers are infallible, but rather that good models (even with problems) are valuable and shouldn't be ignored just because some don't like the results.
