Reds 1-0 after seven. Still no hits.
Homer Bailey walked Cutch on four pitches. Didn't want to pitch to him. Cutch stole second, then tried to swipe third. Did anybody see this? Was it close??

I usually listen to high school football on Friday nights but I remembered that I can listen to WWJ Cincinnati on my little transistor radio.

Coming in looking at the box score, bottom of the 8th, it is as scant a box score as you'll see: Reds do have 7 hits, but only one run and zero extra base hits. Only RBI came off a sac fly. Pirates have no hits, one walk, to the aforementioned McCutchen and a single stolen base. Both starting pitchers are still in and likely to finish the night. My kind of game. Well, except for the Pirates sucking....

Not really - he was out by a good step or so.

Gotta love transistors.... :)

No hits through 8.....perhaps tonight will be the final indignity - a no-no to clinch #20.

9th inning. Due up:

Barajas, pinch hitter, Pressley

Reds have not pitched a no-hitter in 24 years. Last time we were no hit was 1971, the year I became a Pirates fan.

And there it is - a 1-0 no-hitter.

#20 is in the books.

It's kind of like the cherry on top...the other team's fourth best starter no hitting us. Why not. Tip your cap to....oh forget it!!!

Just a quick question for anyone who watched the game. The box score says we had only 27 at bats. Cutch drew a walk but was caught stealing, so I can see the minimum number of batters. But Presley is listed as having 4 ABs. How did that happen?

Ya. Missed that.

6 and 19 for September. I can hardly wait for this month to end.

At least we're better than the BoSox...

Guys got four career complete games and two shutouts. All of which came against the Bucs....

Remember how, just three short weeks ago, some of us were speculating that maybe we'd catch a late season break with the Reds and Braves having locked up playoff positions, that maybe they'd take the pedal off the gas and rest up a bit. I'm now betting the opposite is true. They're drooling over the prospect of playing us because it is going to get them into the groove and with a running start in the playoffs if they knock us around a bit....

Random player/coach thoughts after the game:

Burnett - who did I piss off to get saddled with this bunch of can't hit POSs?

Walker - best to lay low for the time being, they're buying the bad back.

Barajas - if I offer up my services for a cool million next year, there's NO way Neal won't bite. These pitchers love me.

Hurdle - a mixed, random haze of bat barrels, Bubble Yum, and Barmes.

Correct error by Rolen.

It was pretty awesome to see a no-hitter in person, even if it is the opponent.

DK is losing his mind over this, he has totally lost perspective. I guess the Rays should be embarrased by being no hit twice this year. A No-no is special and worth celebrating.

I agree, I was there also and have never seen on in person at any level. HD to give him a standing O. An no hitter is tough against any team.

First off, I'm sure it was a thrill to see a no hitter in person. That is something you can say for the rest of your life...pretty cool.

However, it is a pretty disgusting performance once again for the Pirates. When Verlander and Cain 1 hit them you brush it off as them being great pitchers. But honestly when you step back and look at things, this is an awful offensive team. Last night Bailey needed to mow down the "Murderer's Row" of Brock Holt, Michael Mckenry, and Alex Presley to complete his no hitter. Yikes! Sure Bailey has pitched better and all of that, but he is listed as their 4th best starter(you could argue he is 3rd, but still). DK does go overboard. DK does not take criticism well(IMO), but I don't think he is going overboard on this one. This entire second half, culminating with this no hit disaster, has been pretty sickening(choose a different adjective if you want). And that is why I think if the owner gives a crap he has to make a change with the GM and his doofus assistants. 5 years and we have Holt, Mckenry, and Presley out there trying to prevent a no hitter. Wow!
