How exactly did this happen (bottom of the 3rd).....

Justin Turner reaches on a fielding error by second baseman Josh Harrison. Justin Turner out at 2nd, catcher Rod Barajas to first baseman Gaby Sanchez

If JH made a fielding error, how did Barajas end up with the ball?

Harrison overthrew 1B and the ball rebounded off the wall to Barajas who was backing up 1B. Turner was walking back to 1B after the overthrow. Rod then threw to Sanchez who was screaming for the ball and Sanchez tagged Turner. Sanchez saw Turner move toward second base before stopping and walking back to 1B like nothing happened. At first the umpire at 1B said safe. Then the umps met after Clint argued and the other 3 agreed that Turner made a move towards second and was out.

Then how is he "out at second..." if Sanchez tagged him?

Because he had already gained first base. Thus, anything other than a pick-off by the pitcher would be considered an attempt to gain on the next base. Since he made the turn, he had gained first and was attempting second (according to the rules). I do a little "official scoring" on the side, so this is actually a common occurrence.

I have only seen that kind of play a handful of times in the majors. I did think it was impressive that the 1st base ump agreed to ask his crew since I think what Turner did happened out of his line of sight, and his crew ended up getting the call correct.
