Well, there you go, there's some optimism left in this board. It was what, 3 games without a gameday thread?

Yeah I took the weekend off and no one picked up the slack for me.

At the very least we have a batting title chase and a MVP race involved. I think Cutch's MVP chances ride on .500. Posey has made a strong push and Braun lurks (though I think he will be punished for his Roids issues).

If Cutch wins the batting title and the Pirates go 82-80 or better, he should be the MVP. I'm still really pulling for that. We shall see.

I think the narrative will be very strong if we get to 81 wins. Cutch is 2nd in WAR at 7.5 even with his negative defensive rating (Braun 7.9, Posey 7.0). Writes love a good story and Cutch's herculean effort to end the losing streak at 19 would likely be rewarded.

Well, if the Brewers make the playoffs, it's almost certainly going to be Ryan "The Tester Kept My Pee Too Long" Braun.

The BBWAA sure does hate roids, I'll bet more than a few drop him down their ballots. That said, I don't like their odds with St.Louis holding a 3 game lead with 9 to play.

Cutch leads the NL in WAR using DRS instead of UZR (baseball reference WAR).

I like this lineup. Not sure about McPherson yet, but he's one of those young arms we had down on the farm. The bullpen should be well rested after yesterday, so let's hope Kyle can give us at least 5 strong innings.

New Game (since we're all in a collective funk and unlikely to start any more gameday threads):

Nice to have two guys with 30 HRs. When was the last Buccos team to have such?

Wait what does it mean when the Pirates have a higher number than the other team

According to my wife, it means that her husband is more pleasant to be around.
