What does it take for Pirate fans to be happy? Who gives a crap that some retarded website rated him the worst CFer, who cares if his range factor or some other BS stat doesn't line up with some of the "greats." Somebody in Pittsburgh was noticed for having a great year. Enjoy it for crying-out-loud!

JEEZ!

This was in the article that someone else posted on here:

"McLouth received a Gold Glove because he committed only a single error and made his share of highlight-reel plays. Still, in true Edmondsian fashion, a great majority of these plays were necessitated by a poor read off the bat and then an exaggerated, uniform-soiling dive for the ball."

I'm glad Nate won, but I'd tend to agree with that.

By everything I've heard from people this year (sportscasters, some baseball people), Nate was one of the better route readers in baseball...Nyjer Morgan on the otherhand...

But regardless, he was more of an asset in CF than previous CFers and had a season people outside of Pittsburgh noticed...

Interesting piece on Nate in John Dewan's (The Fielding Bible) blog:

A few observations:

1 - How do we reconcile the author's belief that he "no longer think[s] of McLouth as the worst center fielder in baseball" with his system's contention that McLouth is "the worst outfielder in baseball"?

2 - How much weight should we ascribe to a system that only takes into consideration fly balls?

These aren't loaded questions either, I'm not sure how I'd answer them.............yet.

Nate being the CFer for the Pirates probably saw alot more fly balls hit in the OF the way the pitching staff sucked this season

His play in the OF got better as the season went along, I beleve.

Early on, he may simply have been in transition from a corner OF position to full time CF. He also seemed, early on, to take great heed to setting up and playing CF "Virdon-style", i.e., very shallow and get back on the ball. Since he wasn't fully used to CF at the time, he may have had some growing pains learning that he isn't Bill Virdon.

By the end of the year, he was getting around pretty good, and seemingly playing deeper.
