Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Gaby Sanchez hitting under .200 when we got him. I haven't been checking all of his stats, but glancing at box scores it looks like he's maybe finding his swing again.

It sure would be nice for him to get back to his old self next year and maybe our first base issue could finally be solved.

What say you guys?

Maybe...

He had some successful years in Miami. His numbers with Pittsburgh aren't bad. He basically is the only one on the team doing much in September (.936 OPS, 3 HR's, 9 RBI's in 18 games). He's not stellar defensively, but probably better than Jones.

At a minimum, he's on this team next year in a similar role...3-4 starts a week, pinch hitter/defensive replacement for the other games. If he proves he deserves more time, then he can get it.

Considering the underwhelming history of Pirates first baseman since Jeff King left, Gaby has merely whelmed, which should be good enough for keeping him as GJ insurance.

One positive with Sanchez is his K/BB ratio since we acquired him: 18/12 = 3/2. That's solid and tells me that his performance is not all smoke and mirrors.

He's not the only one doing it in September

Cutch 937 OPS 6HR 14RBI

Barmes has a 788 OPS

That's it, everyone else sucks.

He's putting up numbers along the lines of what he did the past two years in Florida...I wonder if he got sucked into the excitement of all the free agent signings and the new ball park and was trying to be a Home Run hitter?

Maybe just bad luck?

Jose Tabata's September OPS is .889.
