So where does he rank on the list of all-time pitchers? Top 5? Top 10?

If you are talking about stuff, he's not in the top 100 of active pitchers, even in his prime. If you are talking about the art of pitching he is in my top five. If you are talking about all facets of the game, including fielding and hitting, he's the best I've ever seen.

I prefer to measure a pitcher's worth based upon the things he's expected to do: get outs and limit run scoring. In those categories, he's among the best, if not the best, of his generation, and is easily among the top 20 best pitchers of all time. I'd feel comfortable putting him in the Top 10.

I have no problem saying he's one of the top pitchers of this generation...Only his rookie season did he not post more than 190 innings pitched...3000 K's from someone who didn't have a fastball in the high 90's...3.16 career ERA...walked 1000 batters in 5000 innings...109 complete games...

Too bad he only won one championship...

Hell even in his twilight years, he's better than any starting pitcher the Pirates have had...

I'd put him in the top five all time. He was a third of the way through his career before he pitched for a decent team, and pitched in a terrible pitcher's park during that time. I remember one Memorial Day putting on winter coats to take my son to see him pitch so that he would be able to say some day that he saw Greg Maddux pitch.

He's one of my all-time favorites. Definitely an all-time great, in my opinion.
