The first time I ever heard of this rule was in 1996 when they gave Tony Gwynn 4 extra pa's to win the batting title when he was 9 points ahead of Ellis Burks. I never understood why its a rule.

I think they should make a rule that no players suspended during a season for PEDs can be eligible for any league awards.

The PEDs rule makes sense and will likely be added.

I wouldn't. There's a minimum number of PAs specifically to ensure that the winner played a complete season, or wasn't a fluke. And everyone knows that 501 is the magic number. It ought to stay that way.

Fluke has nothing to do with it. If you are adding oh-fers, then it wouldn't matter if it were a fluke or not.

I became a Bucs fan as a result of this rule. Back in the summer of 77 when Renny Stennet and Dave Parker were running neck and neck for the batting title, a couple of times during the summer Stennet would drop off the leader board. It was due to insufficient plate appearances, but it was the curiousity that got me coming back to the Pirates.

Give Melky Cabrera some credit, im hearing that he asked to be ruled out of the batting title race.
