Isn't it ironic that on all the media pre-season shows...all the talk was about "FINISH" (t-shirts and bs like that) and that is the exact thing this team didn't do. This one hurts a bit more this year as I truly believed the team was beyond falling apart like this...

NH traded Lincoln and brought in Chad Qualls. The bullpen and season promptly fell apart.

What does that have to do with everyone in the bullpen who was pitching well all season? Are you saying they are started to suck because Lincoln got traded? Might be just me, but I am not seeing how Lincoln affects anyone else.

With Lincoln the Piraters seemed to have the right people in the right bullpen place. Without him, it seems they do not. As you say, why would everyone start to suck because Lincoln got traded? Maybe because they don't have the mental makeup (or physical skill) for the roles that fell to them. Isn't that the"art" of putting a bullpen together? It seems to me that there is some "chemistry" involved. Countless successful setup men fail as a closer. Hammer does not pitch well when he is not in a save situation. Same guys. Different outcomes.

I'm not trying to 'draw lines' or claim I'm 'a better fan', I'm just sick of this 'woe is us!' crap. It's Cleveland esque.

I can stand losing games; it's part of the game (and it's just a game). But the internal combustion and strife in/between the fans, media and team is just pathetic.

Losing, and all the petty drama therein, only matters if you let it. Clearly this team has let it and the fans followed thereafter.

It shows a stunning lack of maturity and character for all parties involved.

I'm tired of the negativity and I don't want to participate in it further.

Everyone involved with the Pirates needs to forget these last two months and focus on the last 14 (now 13) games.

That's how you solve the problem.

This team needs to quit crying and worrying and do something.

And fans need to chill. These aren't the DL Pirates. This too shall pass.

um....it's 20 years.....20.....years. And I don't care whether this idiot GM was here for all of them or not. The fans have been, and this collapse is just the cherry on top of this crap sundae.

Scene: Nutting and buddies on the Titanic

Nutting: What is that racket?
NH: Don't worry, nothing that rearranging the deck chairs won't fix.
Hurdle: Barajas, where's my BubbleYum?!!!
Leyva: Hurd, why is my room in Steerage with Cutch?

Allowing the past to matter is what doomed this season.

No one can change the[ir] past. They can, however, shape the[ir] future.

Yesterday's gone. Do something [starting] today.

As long as this team (and subsequently the fanbase) 'can't get out of its own head' and focuses on the past, it will fail.

I get it but I'm pretty sure my frustrations or my cheerfulness won't help Pedro Alvarez hit a slider or help James McDonald from walking the leadoff batter.

Like I said, the team needs to recognize error of theii 'moroseness', too (and most importantly) and 'actualize'.

Luckily there are still 13 games this year and 162 next year to do so.

I'd be more inclined to follow this line of thinking if they hadn't completely fallen apart
2 years in a row. To be perfectly blunt, I think you are seeing the true level of talent/
clutch ability rearing it's head.

Just like all of the major sports, all of the MLB teams have players of similar athletic ability
in what can be measured. ALL of these guys (compared to the average guy: can run
like deer, hit the ball a long ways, etc.). The difference between the players lies in the ability to perform
consistently as a professional athlete, especially under pressure against other players
who have the ability to stop them. Be honest, how many players on this team would
start on any of the teams leading the various divisions?

Sidebar - Watch the play of this bunch suddenly improve when the pressure of finishing .500 is
gone (read as unattainable, not when they clinch it). It is going to be infuriating but predictable.

Exactly! Watch them suddenly rear up and sweep the final weekend or similar long
after it really doesn't mean anything at all. I know that finishing above .500 should be
a big deal to the players and they are shrinking under the pressure.
