9 wins that is. 9 wins to secure a non losing season. 10 wins to have a winning season. Ready? Set? Go!

Games remaining:

4 @ cubs
3 v brewers
3 @ Astros
4 @ mets
3 v reds
3 v braves

That's it, 20 games to get 9 wins....

Considering the poor baseball the Pirates have been playing in a good while now, I'll settle for nine wins and or a winning season no matter which teams they beat and no matter how they do it.

Is it sad I don't see ten wins there?

Cubs 3
Brewers 1
Astros 3
Mets 2
Reds 2
Braves 2

That's 13 and likely a shot at the playoffs. Its just as easy to imagine a turnaround starting tonight against the Cubs non-descript staff. Baseball is weird.

9 means nothing to me. Then you still haven't had a winning season in 20 years. I need 10.

I'll take 20, though. Hell, the Rockies did it once.

Unless the Baseball Gods look down on them and take pity for the last 19 years, I don't see more than 7 or 8 wins left in this team

The Reds and Braves may roll over and play dead for those last 6 games as neither one of those teams likely has any interest in seeing the Phillies, Dodgers, Cardinals or Brewers in the playoffs.

As of right now, you ask any Braves player which team that they would like to see come to Turner Field for a one-game playoff and the answer is easy - if they are being honest - and its the Pirates.

Take your choice:
AJ Burnett and a lame hitting team.
Roy Halliday and a hot hitting team.
Kyle Lohse and a far more formidable lineup than the Pirates.
Gallardo and the hot hitting Brewers.

Outside of the Reds possibly playing for home field advantage in the playoffs, those last 6 games won't be "make or break" for the Reds or Braves.

1 win vs. cubs
1 win vs. brewers
2 wins vs. astros
2 wins vs. mets
1 win vs. reds (only because they'll have home field locked up or washington will)
1 win vs. braves

8 wins....another losing season, this time by 1 game. Who was it that finished with 80 wins? 2002 team?

No team has won 80 since 1992, 79 in 1997 is the high water mark (also 78 in 161 games in 1999). 75 wins is the mark for this millenium in 2003.

I understand your point but 9 wins and an 81-81 record ends the 19 years of losing

0 v reds

Total 9 wins and 81-81 record

It does technically, but I don't think it changes much. 20 years without a winning season sounds terrible. It sounds like what the AIDS virus would say if it could speak.
