Why does 2012 feel like 2011 all over again? I was told this years team is nothing like last years squad. Helpless feeling.

This team lacks a consistent lineup and an ace in the rotation. I won't lie I was dreaming of the playoffs this season but realistically it was never gonna happen.

I love how this team is gonna look in two years. I think a lot of us just got caught up in the moment because of the Pirates last 19 seasons.

I still think this season is a success. We got to see Cutch emerge as the star we all hoped he would become, Alvarez showed he could be our power bat we desperately need, and Cole/Taillon are looking like the aces that could finally be the missing ingredient for a playoff berth.

It is only a success if we break .500. Otherwise it is abject failure. In other words a typical year for this team.

I will agree that it will be a huge letdown if we don't finish above .500, but it isn't an abject failure as long as we win more games than the previous season. We're sitting on 72 wins with 22 games to go. Last year we won 72 games, which was a 15 game improvement over 2010. I certainly didn't think we would win 15 more in 2012 than in 2011, but it is still mathematically possible.

What I'm trying to say is this... if we win 80 games and lose 82 this year, I'll be damn disappointed. But it still would be an improvement and not an abject failure. I'm not giving up on these guys, nor am I trying to play cheerleader. But I don't want to bury this season just yet, either.

We'll agree to disagree. When you are that far above .500 that late into the season, after 19 years of losing, and you still can't crack that nut, it is abject failure.

I understand where you are coming from but in my opinion .500 is not a goal I care about. I care about the playoffs and this team is showing the potential to make it in a few years.
