4 Hits. Ugh. This team is in free fall and there's really no reason to expect anything to change. Our pitchers are shot, the injuries that we avoided the first half of the season are starting to pile up (esp if McCutchen is hurting) and we're getting beat by bad teams. I guess that's what bugs me the most: losing to the Astros, Padres, Brewers and Cubs. It's getting painful to even check the score each night...

This is one of those '54'.

Go get 'em tomorrow.

True..we did only get four hits tonight..but I have to say Samardzija is a beast. 1st inning he was at 95 with command..I didn't really pay much attention to detail until the 7th...he was clocking 96. 105 pitches, 34 balls and 71 strikes. 8th inning...97 with command. 9th inning he was back down to 95ish...but plenty left in the tank. I really want to hope this kind of pitching (Cole, Taillon..etc) is what we have to look forward to in a few years. The Cubs won't be as bad as they've been this year for long.

I like baseball from a distance. Like to talk about it, like to read about, and the nuances of a 162 game season are like nothing else in sports. But watching baseball? For me, it's like watching paint dry.

We're getting there, guys. We really are, I really believe that. We just aren't there yet.

I think that one reason why it's as frustrating as it is this year is because of the lowering of the bar caused by having 10 playoff teams as opposed to 4, like there were in, say, 1987. If we were still in the NL East, we'd be in 3rd place, 13 1/2 games behind Montreal (nee Washington) right now. Our playoff hopes would have been dead for about 3 weeks now. We'd be able to enjoy the season for what it was, appreciate the progress made, and really look forward to next year. As it is, we're angst-ridden. :|

Sorry Judge but waiting for next year is getting very old just like I am. I'll be 70 soon and my time to wait is getting short. I'll be like one of the old Boston fans where you will have to come to the grave yard to tell me they finally have won. I have been waiting since 79 to get back to the World Series, going 500 just won't cut it anymore

I was! But as I have said before, I am not the biggest Jeff Clement fan in the world, but there are a few things I think about him. First off, the worked his ass off coming back from injuries and had EARNED a chance. Second, he should have been here, if for nothing more than to PH when we were running players like Gorkys Hernandez and Jordy Mercer out there as our top guys off the bench. Third, he is a really nice kid.

Who knows what might happen down the road? Maybe all he needed was a shot like Garrett Jones a few years back.

Clement should have been brought up earlier in the season when he was hot. I'm glad he finally got a hit and still like his chances as a pinch hitter compared to our other options.
