(1) No, that is not a typo in the Cubs' lineup. Samardzija really is batting 8th.

(2) No, that is not a typo in the Pirates' lineup. Barajas really is in the lineup again.

(3) Back to Samardzija: I read somewhere that this is going to be his final start of the season. Anyone know why he's being shut down?

It's an innings pitched over last year thing. He's been a reliever the last few seasons and this season he has exceeded his previous innings pitched quite a bit.

So...today is my birthday. ALL I WANT IS A PIRATES WIN AND ST LOUIS/LA LOSSES. Is that too much to ask for?

Why in the hell is Barajas in the lineup again? All he does is strikeout or pop up to right field.

Well, you never know when you might need a strike out or a pop up.

Maybe we need a Bob Walk-esque campaign at the ballpark, like his "Ban the DH" thing. "Banish Barajas."

Why can't we just beat some body's ass. Does every night have to be a struggle?

Dale Sveum might have outsmarted himself in batting Samardzija #8 tonight. Twice in four innings, he's come up with a runner in scoring position and 2 out. And he's 0-for-2. That's the difference between this game being tied right now and the Cubs having the lead.

These Cub hitters are good, they can put the barrel on the ball.

If you don't believe me, talk to McDonald.

We're getting there, guys. We really are, I really believe that. We just aren't there yet.

I think that one reason why it's as frustrating as it is this year is because of the lowering of the bar caused by having 10 playoff teams as opposed to 4, like there were in, say, 1987. If we were still in the NL East, we'd be in 3rd place, 13 1/2 games behind Montreal (nee Washington) right now. Our playoff hopes would have been dead for about 3 weeks now. We'd be able to enjoy the season for what it was, appreciate the progress made, and really look forward to next year. As it is, we're angst-ridden. :|

Screw the Playoffs, Just get to 82. this team has overacheived all season. Get over 500 and ill be happy. Watching the Pirates play important games late in the season and getting everyones hopes up is the equivalent of getting blue balls!

Didn't watch or listen to the game tonight. Makes losing a lot easier to stomach when playing teams selling the farm in rebuild mode. Thank goodness for college football. My brother texted that cutch now has bad back tightness. If true, not good.

Here come the brewers.
