While I am a Pirates fan 1st...I still appreciate good baseball. For that kid to slam into the wall playing on a team headed for 100 losses...it says a lot about his work ethic/hustle.

I do feel bad for Cutch, he has hit two great balls but been robbed.

lets think of the past months embarassments...

14-4 whipping from cubs in late july
10-4 whipping from the diamondbacks
5 losses to the 27 yankees..i mean the padres in august
11-0 from the dodgers
9-3 from the dodgers
the brewers
and a 5-1 loss to the astros who beat us with a pitcher that was on eastbound and down

this team is not limping to the finish, they are being carried by bums instead of studs

The thing is......if they take 2 of 3 from the series then the series is a success...a 1-0 loss is the same as a 12-0 loss.

For tonight though, I'm not sure what is more embarrassing.........7 errors or being 1 hit by the Cubs.

The last few weeks have been really tough to watch this team not be able to climb out of this funk. I wasn't surprised to see the bucs take the astros series, I was surprised we lost a game. I do think the.future is bright with a lot of solid.talent in the system, and no matter how much I wanted to believe this was the year, they just can't finish. Remember "finish" was the motto this year. Not so much. Playoffs is what every fan wants for their team.

Wrong. You are totally wrong.

Monday's game was a lax effort. Tonight, they didn't play well, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. If anything, they pressed too much at times.

Also, they were totally snakebit. The baseball gods really had it in for us tonight. Time to move on.

Knowing the Judge's history, this might be the most unintentionally funny post in the history of the UPPMB.

Just because they got the crap kicked out of them doesn't automatically mean that it was because of a lack of effort. It is entirely possible to play hard and play badly. I think the young guys were tense and pressing, which is the opposite of a lack of effort. We played poorly, and we also got every bad break that we could possibly get, and things snowballed. I've seen a lot of uninspired Pirate baseball over the past 20 years, but this was not and example of that. Bad? Yes, assuredly. Lacking effort? No. Sorry if this doesn't fit in with your presumed narrative, but that's the way I see it.

So, what's the Judge's history? I tried googling it, came up empty.

You know, players have "off nights". But when a team commits 7 errors and your best starter shits the bed, it's not a good sign.

I fear the fold is here. Just piss poor. No other way to put it.

Home game against a HORRIBLE Cubs team and a chance to step up in the race. This is NOT a playoff team and it makes me sad to type that.

Great story, I think Huntington is doing okay. He must be, haven't seen any signs hanging lately.

We on the board also sent sheets and banners to the Judge back in the 3RS days voicing displeasure. Still have any photos of that Judge? Show the button bucks... 8-) 8-) 8-)

No ... that particular stunt never got any ink. Got some nice feedback from some fans there that day, though, including an inebriated guy who kept insisting that Bertie was a great American, despite our insistance otherwise. ;)

Of course, a couple of economically-Darwinist Yankee fans had to come over and harass us, too, just to be trolls. Speaking of undesirables ...

... Well, then, I guess it won't hurt his feelings if I posit here that this dude has got to be the single least intelligent guy I've ever encountered on this board. And I lived through the Gary Era, so that's really saying something.

It's been apparent to me for a while that we are not a playoff team. And I'm OK with that. It took a career half-year from McCutchen, one of the best years, all-time, from our bullpen, and remarkably great health to have a team that had peaked and was about to fall behind a rampant Reds team. And then we had a trade deadline that didn't bring in much for this year's pennant race. All that adds up to a team that's playing like we are right now: poorly.

The thing is though, our starter didn't really shit the bed, the defense did.

It bothers me also when people assume that a team playing poorly doesn't care or is not trying.

Aside from the normal competitive desire to win, and the all accolades and benefits that come with winning, these guys have a very real and tangible reason to perform well, in the form of literally millions of dollars. Of course they are trying.
