He's become almost an afterthought in this season. What do you all see his role being next year? The rotation would seem to have AJ, JMac, Wandy as locks, with Karstens, Locke, and McPherson vying for the final two spots, keeping one of them warm for Cole mid-season. You can probably throw Morton into that mix for a 4th or 5th starter, but, with that sinker, I think he'd be great out of the pen. Just thinkin' ahead...way ahead.

Remove 'almost' from that sentence and you may be entirely correct.

Still, I like your BP idea. With Correia out the door and Lincoln moved for a bat, Morton's logical fit is the 'pen.

That's the best case scenario, as Chaz-Mo does has filthy stuff, but only sporadically and because the Bucs should really be shifting/transitioning toward the McP/Locke/Wilson...Cole/Taillon era.

Grilli is no spring chicken, so it would be nice to see Morton develop into that eighth inning guy eventually.

You want to remove "afterthought" or "almost"?? I am so confused!

Charlie will have to agree to a minor league deal to stay here next year, he's arbitration eligible and I can't see him being tendered. That said, he may very well do just that, he has made comments about Searage and wanting to stay. At any rate, he won't return to the mound in the bigs until next June/July. By then he could be needed in the rotation or he could be a bullpen option.

We'll have to go outside the organization for starting pitching help this off season.
