Gentlemen and Doc:

It is September 1 and:

1. We are not talking about how the pieces we acquired in the annual July 31st fire sale are panning out.

2. We are playing meaningful baseball

3. We are one game out of a playoff spot!

Life is good.

Let's go Bucs

Yep, that is perspective. A more successful season brings a richer array of things to complain about.

It'd certainly be different if we were in a position where we didn't completely fall out of the division race and turn a +17 record into a +9 in a matter of a few weeks. Point being, context of this season does not have me being very optimistic about where the team will finish.

Maybe.

But look at it this way:

Most of us thought that the Bucs would only last a couple of, maybe three, rounds vs. the competition this seasonal bout. Instead, they've already lasted 5. And there's only a couple more to go!

So, even if they get KO'd late in the 6th round, they'll have gone two or three times longer than expected and only one round from forcing a judges decision.

Now, you can be a little 'disappointed' that they didn't win by TKO after knocking down their opponent(s) a few times early, but having survived this long says alot about thier character.

This isn't Rocky II or III yet. This is still the original (with Barajas filling the role of Burt, Hurdle as Mickey and the fans as Adrian... and Barmes would be Spider Rico, because Spider Rico's a bum! :D ).

We were never + 17. 16 was the highwater mark of the season.

I think when this season is completed, whenever that is, we will all sit back over the winter and talk about how great this season was, and be delighted with the progress (whatever progress there is) of our beloved Buccos.

And, we will have a lot to discuss about '13 and who will be with the Bucs. When will Cole be brought up, how will Starling Marte do over the long season, has Pedro Alvarez finally found himself, and who will be at short......can Brock Holt play short.
Will the Bucs sign Walker to a long term deal?

It's been a great season, no matter how the Bucs finish, lots of thrills and lots of chills. Go Bucs!

Alot of it depends on how they finish. But all the teams in the wildcard race have been stumbling of late. Dodgers have been awful since the big "trade". Cardinals can't score any runs. Braves have been stumbling. So it's anyones ballgame. And if the Bucs can somehow get hot again, it can be there's for the taking.

Most of the division races are becoming runaways. Wehave the Astros coming up, and most everybody has feasted off of them. Chance to gain some ground.

Even BETTER news.

1) We ARE liking many of the players we ACQUIRED in trade, particularly Snider, and planning for how they can be part of our future BEYOND this year.

2) VERY meaningful baseball.

3) just a HALF game out of playoff spot, with tiebreaking advantage to play tie-breaker at HOME!

Yeah...at this rate there's a better chance they finish behind the Brewers than ahead of the Cardinals.
