Three straight innings with a runner on third and less than two out.
Three straight innings with the batter striking out.
Three straight innings with no runs scored.
Going to the bottom of the fourth trailing by 3 runs on the road.
Rays keeping the momentum in thier favor.

I wonder whether he might be pining for . . . . nah . . . nevermind.

And in the bottom of the fourth, Madden successfully plays for a single run with the bunt. 4-0 Rays.

and is fortunate that it did not bite him in the ass later in the game.

Though I can understand doing it with Jason Bartlett, who's a terrible hitter.

I don't have anything substantive to add to this conversion, but I was wondering, am I the only one who gets mad watching Upton saunter down the first base line on an infield grounder? Honestly, I think Ed Ott could have beaten the throw to first on that dp that BJ grounded into last night in the 7th.

I was disgusted watching that.

Charlie Manuel's press conference: "All we had to do was simply execute and we have 3 runs early in the game."

Given how the Phillies are currently hitting, taking a single run to up the lead to 4-0 from 3-0 was IMO an awfully smart play at the time. You can bet that Madden wouldn't have played it the same had the Phillies hitters not wet themselves in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings.

Mrs. AZBF also mentioned her distaste after seeing Upton do his best Joggin' George Hendrick impersonation on the double play he hit into.

He also made the play at 2b a lot closer than it needed to be when he decided to take 2 on the Werth RF gaffe. Disgraceful.

I also thought he was playing way too shallow on Howard's double.

OK - I'm done bashing the guy.

He wasn't exactly "hustling" on either occassion when he hit into consecutive DPs in Game One as well.

His lack of hustle is egregiously obvious. If that's the kind of player he is, I'm glad we didn't draft him.. This is the World Series for Pete's sake!

As for the squeeze to move the score from 3-0 to 4-0, I think that was a brilliant call and brilliantly executed given the score, the hitter up there (Bartlett), and the pitcher they had going (Shields). Really, they made that play look so routine, so easy, that it made me wonder why more teams don't try it. It made a runner on third base with less than two outs look like an automatic run.

Yes, but what does Bullington have to do with legging out a grounder and potentially putting your team in a better position to win a ballgame?

Character! Don't want no bad ass characters on the roster, you know, like those bums that played OF in the early 90's.

You know, I am on lunch break right now in the middle of an Oil & Gas Leasing rights conferance. I am one of oh, about 10 non-lawyers in a crowd of 500, I think.

What I've managed to learn this morning alone, is that there are not ever enough dead horse to beat, only the question of how tender you want the meat to be!

And he's a substantial part of the reason why the Rays are there. I mean, really? You wouldn't want him on the Pirates, just because he didn't leg out a couple grounders? This is the same logic that led the Sox to trade Manny...

Over Nate McLouth? No way... BTW, I wouldn't take Manny on my team if someone gave him to me. I hate buttholes...

Please take note that Upton is starting in the World Series while Bullington is being claimed on waivers by Toronto. I don't care for players who don't hustle either, but there is something to be said for players who have talent.

You must also hate winning.
