The Pirates haven't had one since Kevin Young, and he didn't live up to his contract.

Well you're right about that. Maybe we should keep him. Maybe he can settle down and be a good fielder. If he hits well enough he can make some mistakes over there.

This might be the year when first baseman are plentiful.

The Jaso deal is not looking so good.

Assuming his power develops. There is a reason Meadows is a prospect, you have a pretty good idea what you are getting but nothing is proven.

It's also not proven that Quintana will be healthy come April, let alone for four years.

The question is how much do the Pirates want to win in 2017. Meadows is a 2018 at best if Cutch is still on this team and even then knowing the Pirates track record who knows.

Question: What player have the Pirates kept in the minors after that player has shown that he has mastered the AAA level, aside from Super 2 issues?

Quote:
A top of the rotation starting pitcher for 4 years is greater than a 20 homeruns outfielder for 6. If we are talking about winning. If we are talking about just being competitive then yes, either is fine.

Okay, so let's talk about a deal for a top of the rotation starter instead, because Quintana sure as hell isn't a #1.

Lefty starter with the kind of stuff he's got jumping leagues to a pitcher friendly ball park? Dont be so sure about that. And based on how Cole threw the ball last year, Quintana and his 3.20 ERA would be the Pirates number one right out of the gate.

No, but what is proven is that a guy whom the Pirates are going to rely heavily on this coming season, ended last season with elbow discomfort.

So...are the Pirates going to trade for Quintana or not? And, who will the Pirates have to give up in return if they do trade for the guy? I'm STILL waiting! :?

Thank you TRO. By the way, just my opinion, but that's par for the course.

The Pirates are holding the line when it comes to Meadows and Bell. According to several websites talks have not ceased and the Pirates are trying to work a 3rd team in.

I'm okay if they don't get anything done. As much as I like Quintana if it's true that the Sox wanted Meadows AND Bell then I am okay with not making a deal. If they can find some way to work in a 3rd team and maybe move Cutch to get him without giving up both Bell and Meadows then I would be very happy.

There is a rumor that the Blue Jays are considering sending Vlad Guerrero Jr to the Pirates for Cutch.

Interesting. He's not even 18 yet.

Heres something interesting on that topic

http://rumbunter.com/2017/01/16/pittsbu ... mega-deal/

Im kind of surprised that NH didnt jump all over that deal. Those are prospects that could have bridged us to 2019. Heck! We could have remained just barely competitive all the way through 2019 with that wonderful assortment of prospects. Prospects are great!

Sarcasm noted.

Not enough immediate return in that deal. It would have been more of a 'win later' move.

NH is looking to land at least one 'win now' player in addition to prospects. That's why Quintana/Frazier have been the primary target.

It wouldn't look nearly so bad if the idiots in charge had just three years of at bats to Simon and Ward instead of doing the obvious thing and sending the better hitter out there every day.

They are not going to trade for Quintana until the White Sox recognize that Quintana is not Clayton Kershaw.

That's a rebuilding move. The Pirates don't need to be rebuilding. You only take that deal if you are 100% convinced that Cutch is through.
